Diving in Krk Island, Croatia

Croatia is one of most popular diving destinations in Europe, the explanation for this popularity is very simple: its beautiful, it offers many options when it comes to dive sites – from ship wrecks to caves – it is great for both beginners and advanced divers, and its cheap!

On the search for a good diving location in Croatia, I found out that Krk Island is one of the best places to go diving in the country. I didn’t hesitate for one second when deciding to go there: its only 6 hours away by car from Munich and the place is a gem.

My next step was finding a nice diving center I could trust, which was a very important decision since I was planning to finally scratch something off my bucket list: getting my certification as an Open Water Diver. That is when I found Squatina Diving, which is located in the beach town Baska, where we decided to stay.

I believe I couldn’t have found a better option for our needs. They provided us with one of the most amazing experiences of our lives. It took us 3 days to finish the Open Water Diver Course and after getting certified we began our dives around Krk Island.

In these dive sites you will see a shipwreck, caves and an amazing tunnel, which we passed through, its entrance is 18m deep and the exit 9m deep, totally worth the visit, especially if you take time to explore it with a flashlight. Sometimes it is possible to see some dolphins playing around from the boat; maybe next time we will!

While diving in Krk Island I saw colorful corals, sea grass, red starfishes and lots of different fishes. It is common to see small octopuses, lobsters (at night) and even sea horses if you are very lucky. Sadly we didn’t see them, maybe because we were still too worried about finding our neutral buoyancy, in other words, avoid going up and down all the time!

Diving in Krk Island was an amazing experience, even with the water being a little too cold for a Brazilian girl. I hope to get back soon and explore more dive sites and maybe see a little sea horse.

Learning to dive taught me something apart from knowing my limits under water: diving is a bi**h, it makes you addicted and there is no rehab for it. In other words: diving is amazing and I want to do it again and again.
